Which channel is actually official
Official tickets are sold only through ticketing.colosseo.it, run by CoopCulture as the archaeological park's ticketing concessionaire. The older coopculture.it booking domain is no longer where tickets are sold — the platform moved in 2024, exactly the kind of change that lookalike scam sites exploit.

How much more you pay through a reseller
The official 24-hour combo ticket (Colosseum + Roman Forum + Palatine Hill) is €18. Third-party platforms charge €40-90+ for a guided skip-the-line version of the same entry, and €140-250+ for small-group tours with an expert guide. That markup buys a real guide/headset/scheduling convenience for some travelers — just know the bare entry itself is €18, not €40+.

Even "legitimate" resellers got fined for how they source tickets
In April 2025, Italy's competition authority (AGCM) fined CoopCulture plus six major resellers — including GetYourGuide, Viator, and Tiqets — a combined ~€20 million for using bots to bulk-buy official tickets, creating artificial scarcity that pushed tourists toward pricier bundled packages. These platforms do deliver real tickets; the finding just shows the line between "convenient reseller" and "artificial scarcity" is blurrier than it looks.

The street/kiosk scam near the site itself
Unofficial touts near the Colosseum sell "skip the line, no wait" tickets on the spot — some are real tickets resold at a heavy markup, others are worthless fakes. Since October 2023, official tickets are name-registered specifically to fight this resale market. In late August 2026 the city declared a security "red zone" around the Colosseum with expanded enforcement through December 24, 2026, citing a rise in incidents in the area.

How to verify before you pay
Type ticketing.colosseo.it directly into your browser rather than clicking a paid search-ad result — Italy's Ministry of Culture has flagged that paid ads for queries like "buy Colosseum tickets" frequently lead to unofficial lookalike sites. Never buy from anyone approaching you in person near the site, no matter how official they look.

Colosseum, Roman Forum & Palatine Hill

Official tickets are sold only at ticketing.colosseo.it: Standard Combo €18 (€16 + €2 fee; Colosseum + Forum + Palatine, 24 hours, no guide) or Full Experience €24 (€22 + €2 fee; adds the Underground/Arena Floor or the Attic/Belvedere, pick one). Released 30 days ahead at 8:45am Rome time. Guided products from platforms cost more: GetYourGuide audio entry $41–52 and Viator skip-the-line tours $28–90 (both were among the 7 parties named in the April 2025 AGCM fine over bulk-buying; the tickets are real), or an independent small-group tour from €139 (max 12 people, arena floor not included).

Trevi Fountain – Close-Access Ticket

New since 2 Feb 2026: €2 for non-residents to enter the area closest to the fountain (daily 9:00–22:00, rules run to 31 Dec 2027). Viewing from the square is still free; Rome-area residents, young children and people with disabilities are exempt, and tickets are sold online, at Infopoints or at the gate (card only). Borghese Gallery
