Rome's grandest Baroque fountain, finished in 1762 and still fed by an ancient aqueduct. Come before 8am or after midnight if you want a photo without a crowd.

A cardinal's villa packed with Bernini marbles and Caravaggio canvases, set inside the Villa Borghese park. Visits run in fixed two-hour slots of 180 people.

Hadrian's mausoleum rebuilt as a papal fortress, linked to the Vatican by a secret walled corridor. The rooftop terrace gives the classic view over St Peter's dome.
