At 3,454 metres, the highest railway station in Europe, reached via a cogwheel line tunnelled through the Eiger and Mönch that took 16 years to build (1898-1912). At the top: an ice palace carved into the Aletsch Glacier, viewing platforms looking across the largest glacier in the Alps, and, on a clear day, views said to stretch into Germany and France.

A star-shaped viewing platform stretches out over the drop, with Interlaken laid out below between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz and the Jungfrau massif filling the skyline opposite.

A vintage open-carriage cogwheel railway, running since 1893, climbs from Wilderswil to a 1,967-metre ridge with a panorama over both the Thun and Brienz lakes at once and a face-on view of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. A show cave on the north shore of Lake Thun, named for a 6th-century hermit-missionary said to have driven a dragon from the cave and lived inside it. A lit walkway leads roughly a kilometre through stalactite chambers and past underground waterfalls; the full cave system extends over 14 km, most of it unexplored show territory.
