Practical tips

Osaka has historically been a flag-it-down-on-the-street city, and in the busy downtown grid around Namba and Umeda that's often still the quickest way to get one, though GO and DiDi have both become common backups for when there's no taxi stand nearby or a hotel concierge to call one for you. Kansai Airport added an app-reservation pickup service for exactly that reason, and Uber even runs a help counter there for visitors who'd rather book through the app than join the taxi rank. Cash is still widely used and accepted in Osaka's taxis, though card and QR payment have become common enough that you're rarely stuck without an option either way. As with taxis everywhere in Japan, tipping isn't part of the transaction — you pay what's on the meter and that's the end of it.
