Transit card guide
Paris overhauled its ticketing in 2025: the old paper carnet of t+ tickets was phased out, and single rides are now bought as separate Metro-Train-RER or Bus-Tram tickets loaded onto a Navigo Easy card, a reloadable plastic card that costs a small one-time fee and never expires. Navigo Easy is the practical choice for visitors because, unlike the personalized weekly Navigo pass, it needs no photo or paperwork and can be topped up and handed around your travel group at any station counter or through the RATP app. Day passes exist, but they mainly pay off if you're genuinely crisscrossing the city by metro and RER all day; for typical sightseeing where you're walking between nearby sights, buying tickets as you go on Navigo Easy tends to work out simpler.
