Usually the best value entry plan: a large Spanish data bundle with unlimited domestic calls for around €10 a month, EU roaming included. Bring your passport - Spanish law requires ID registration for every SIM.

Around €15 a month for a very large data allowance on Vodafone's own network. The EU roaming data cap is much lower than the Spanish allowance, so check it if Madrid is one stop on a longer European trip.

A little pricier, but the most reliable coverage once you head out to Toledo, Segovia or the Sierra de Guadarrama. The safest choice if your trip involves day trips from Madrid.

The cheapest standard prepaid plan in Spain, around €5 a month with unlimited domestic calls. Fine for a city stay; coverage leans on a partner network, so it is weaker outside urban areas.

The same prepaid bundle as an eSIM, so your home number stays active on the other line. Registration is still done in person with a passport, and Orange tends to be more flexible than Vodafone about accepting non-Spanish ID.
