Mutianyu: cheap gate ticket, separate cable car/toboggan pricing

Mutianyu's own admission is ¥40/adult (¥20 for children/seniors). Street touts near Tiananmen/Forbidden City sell "full-day Great Wall tour" packages for as little as ¥100-140 that bundle transport with mandatory stops at jade, silk, or tea shops paying the guide a commission — tourists often get only 90 minutes to 2 hours at the actual wall. Cheap tours are also reported to upsell or add fees once on the bus.

Official booking needs a Chinese phone number — most foreigners use Trip.com

Badaling's official booking site (ticket.badaling.cn) is Chinese-only and requires a mainland Chinese mobile number for SMS verification plus Alipay/WeChat/UnionPay payment, which most foreign tourists can't complete. Trip.com's English platform is the commonly used workaround — it accepts foreign phone numbers and international cards, typically at a 5-15% markup over gate price, and issues a QR code or passport-linked confirmation for entry.
