Onsen Prices by Region

Admission prices for hot-spring bathhouses in Japan's dedicated onsen towns — grouped by budget, mid-range, and premium tier.

Area Guide

Hakone

The most accessible onsen town from Tokyo — a direct Romancecar express ride away, and small enough to see with one multi-day transit pass.

  • The Hakone Free Pass bundles unlimited rides across roughly 8 transport types in the area — including the Hakone Tozan Railway, buses, the Hakone Ropeway, and Lake Ashi sightseeing cruises — for around ¥6,000 for a 2-day adult pass (exact price varies by starting station).
  • The Hakone Ropeway crosses the volcanically active Owakudani valley (with Mt. Fuji views on clear days) and connects to Lake Ashi's sightseeing "pirate ship" cruises — the region's signature scenery combination.
