Transit card guide

Delhi Metro runs on a rechargeable smart card that you buy and top up at the customer-care counter of any station, and holding one gets you an automatic discount over paying with single-journey tokens. Tourists on a short trip sometimes opt for the dedicated Tourist Smart Card instead, which bundles a set number of days of unlimited travel into one flat price with a refundable deposit — worth it only if you'll genuinely be riding the metro constantly rather than sightseeing mostly on foot. The one trap to know is that neither the Tourist Card nor ordinary tokens work on the Airport Express Line to IGI Airport, which runs on its own separate, pricier fare that you'll need a regular smart card or a dedicated ticket for.
