Booking tips before you go
Nice's municipal museums are no longer a free-for-all
The City of Nice's official pages now list paid tickets for non-residents: Matisse €12, Masséna €10, Jules Chéret €10, Archaeology €5. Under-18s, students and job-seekers still enter free with proof, and residents of the Nice metropolitan area get a free Pass Musées; visitors can buy the 4-day pass for €15.

Closed in 2026: MAMAC and Terra Amata
The MAMAC modern and contemporary art museum has been closed for renovation since January 2024 and is not expected to reopen before 2028, so skip it on this trip. The Terra Amata prehistory museum also closes from 15 April 2026 for accessibility works.

Combo tickets and the Riviera Pass: do the sums first
The Villa Ephrussi plus Villa Kérylos combined ticket is €24 (valid 8 days) against €33 bought separately, and Kérylos sells tickets on site only. The French Riviera Pass (€30 / €45 / €65 for 24h / 48h / 72h) covers about 60 sites, so it only wins if you cram in several paid entries a day; the Chagall Museum is free on the first Sunday of the month, and Fondation Maeght needs no advance booking.

Prices come from each attraction's official booking site where it could be read; otherwise they are cross-checked against independent 2026 sources, and each item's note says which. Re-check the official site for the current price before booking.
Matisse Museum

Adult ticket per the museum's official page. Free for under-18s, students, job-seekers and disability cardholders with proof; closed Tuesdays. Several older guides still call Nice's municipal museums free, but the official ticket page now lists €12.

Marc Chagall National Museum

€10 outside exhibition periods, €12 when a temporary exhibition is running. Free on the first Sunday of each month and for EU residents under 26; closed Tuesdays. Not covered by the municipal 4-day museum pass.

Castle Hill (Colline du Château) and Free Lift
FreeCity of Nice public park
Park entry is free (City of Nice page; open 8:30-20:00 from April to October). The lift from the Quai des Etats-Unis has been free since 2011 according to several 2026 local guides, but the city page does not mention it and the lift can be out of service, so the stairs are the fallback.

Oceanographic Museum of Monaco

Regular adult ticket (18+) from the museum's official page; a lower rate of €20.50 applies in some periods. Children 4-17 and students €14, under-4s free. Monaco is a short train ride from Nice.

Nice Tourist Train, Castle Hill Circuit

Adult fare for the 50-minute castle circuit with a 10-minute viewpoint stop, per the operator's page; children 4-12 pay €6 and under-4s are free. Individual passengers cannot pre-book, so buy at the ticket office at the Centenaire monument.
