A 382m forested mountain long nicknamed 'the city's lungs,' made up of 30-plus peaks and dotted with temples, gardens, and viewpoints; Moxing Ridge at the summit is one of the classic 'Eight Views of Yangcheng' overlooking the entire city.

Housed in a 1380 Ming-dynasty five-story watchtower atop Yuexiu Hill — one of the few surviving sections of the old city wall — this is Guangzhou's oldest museum, covering the city's history from prehistory through the Qing dynasty with a rooftop view over the park and skyline.

Closed: Closed Mondays. Open Tue-Sun 9:00-18:00 (last entry/ticket sales 17:30).

A 1,500-year-old Buddhist temple named by the poet Su Shi after six banyan trees he admired here in 1099 (long gone, though new ones have been planted); its 57m octagonal Flower Pagoda, rebuilt in 1097, is one of Guangzhou's oldest standing structures and can be climbed for city views.

Guangzhou's busiest shopping street, built directly over the Song-dynasty-and-earlier road that has been the city's main north-south axis for over a thousand years — a glass viewing panel partway down the street lets you look straight down at excavated stone paving from five different historical eras stacked on top of each other.
